Special triple feature: BIG Mopars of the Month
1962 Chrysler, 1962 Dodge, 1963 Dodge
This month is a special tribute to the BIG Mopars! The fine machines too often get passed by without appreciating what great rides they are!
The famous Chrysler 300 letter series cars have a well deserved performance and collectability reputation. These low production, high performance highway cruisers are awesome cars.
But in the "real world" not many people used such machines as daily drivers. That task was usually left to four door (and station wagon) versions of the large Mopar product line.
While possessing many of the same or similar basic mechanicals as their 300 cousins, these Mopars have not gotten as much respect and attention that they are due.
Fortunately, some people have taken upon themselves the task of restoring and preserving these family highway cruisers. Here we virtually pat on the back several of the set of people who have seen the value of these Mopars and restored.
Our first of the Mopars of the Month is from a fan of BIG Mopars who has a 1962 Chrysler 300 non-letter car AND has meticulously restored a 1962 Newport. (Many people are familiar with Chrysler 300s, especially the letter series cars. But in 1962 the 300 could get built as a trim option as well as a letter series.)
Jerry, aka taperboy, has done a fine job restoring his 1962 Newport. More details about the 1962 Newport are available here.
Another seldom seen but cool BIG Mopar is a 1962 Dodge Custom 880
Kevin has taken the car and done a lot of restoration and hard work.
Kevin is also currently replacing the in-line dual quads for the over-the-valve-cover style intake. We'll post a picture when it is available.
More details about Kevin's 1962 Dodge Custom 880 are available here.
Our last example of care for a big Mopar is a 1963 Dodge Custom 880. Proof that these Mopars are even prowling around internationally, in fact, this 1963 Dodge Custom 880 in Finland was recently the wedding limo for Jarmo and Pauliina, the bride and groom: a couple who truly appreciate these BIG Mopars!
More details about the 1963 Dodge Custom 880 are available here.
So the next time you see a deal on a 4 door Big Mopar, don't forget it is a Mopar: Big block, 8.75 rear, push button Torqueflight, torsion bar suspension etc. PLUS a long and wide wheelbase for a comfortable ride!
It takes a Mopar to catch a Mopar applies to the BIG Mopars too! :-)
A lot more of these great Mopars are featured on the BIG Mopars Page!
