1965 Plymouth Sport Fury
February 2013 Mopar of the Month
Tim writes:The body of this Sport Fury has 57,000 miles on it. My son was 13 at the time I purchased the Plymouth and the Mopar has been great for him and I to work on this project together over the years. Now he is 26 and has a Demon of his own! |

Build Sheet
- 440 block
- Keith Black 30 over pistons / factory rods
- Crank 10 / 10
- Mopar 525 lift cam
- Max Wedge Stage 3 heads
- Max Wedge intake
- 2 x 600 cfm Holley carburetors
- TTI headers with Flowmaster mufflers with knock outs
- Mallory ignition box with distributor
- Four core radiator
- Fan shroud
- Hughes 3000 stall converter
- TorqueFlite 727 transmission built with 5 sprag heavy duty clutches
- B&M shifter
- 3:91 gears with SureGrip
- Front disk brakes with spindles (off a 1969 Chrysler Newport)
- Big van master cylinder with proportional valve
- Gear Vendors overdrive
The Max Wedge engine idles fairly nice and has good throttle response, and is an all around better driver on the street.
The old tunnel ram engine had Edlebrook heads on it and was good for the strip because I had a 5000 stall converter in it. Made it not very streetable. The Sport Fury ran 13.4 in quarter with this setup! |

After I installed a Gear Vendors overdrive unit and new drive shaft the Plymouth goes down the freeway at 70 mph @ 2600 rpm. A little more respectable than 3200 at 60 mph with the previous setup.
