1962 Plymouth Savoy

October 2010 Mopar of the Month

Eldon writes: I have owned this Plymouth for 25 years and the Mopar has been in the family for 30 years. I bought the Savoy from my brother Charlie who ran this car in Super Stock for a number of years.

The Plymouth was built in the USA but was sold in Canada at a Canadian dealership.

The Savoy was rotisserie-restored in 2003 to it’s present condition.

The engine is a date-coded 1962 Super Stock 413. The big block was freshened to today’s standards with 9.75 to 1 compression ratio with 490 horsepower. It has a 1962 cross-ram intake with Edelbrock carbs, original air cleaners, stock cast iron exhaust manifolds.

And 3 inch exhaust with factory cutouts.

The transmission is a 1962 727 Torqueflite with a 3000 stall converter.
The rear end is a stock 8 3/4 with 355 gears and super stock springs.

The 1962 Savoy was the ugly duckling of the ’60’s but queen of the Twentieth Century.
